These systems “match” the condenser to the coils, but that does not mean the BTU (British Thermal Units) capacities are identical. If your air handler is fairly new and is not showing signs of aging, you might want to opt for an air conditioner/coil combo. These are sold as cooling-only systems, but you can add heating capabilities with electric heating coils ranging from 5 kilowatts to 10 kilowatts. A 13 SEER or even a Goodman 3.5-ton 14 SEER would make an ideal solution for homes across the northern tier of states, but for southern and western states, you would need a higher rating, like 16 SEER, which is more energy efficient for hotter climates.
